SEVERE STORMS IN TEXAS
Updated by Henry Margusity
Severe Weather MapSevere Weather Discussion
We’re tracking the potential for a significant severe weather outbreak on Mother’s Day across central Texas into southern Arkansas and northern Louisiana.
This area could experience a fairly active round of severe thunderstorms capable of producing:
Tornadoes
Large hail
Damaging wind gusts
The greatest threat appears to be from Sunday afternoon into Sunday night as storms intensify along the developing system.
Meanwhile, along the Gulf Coast today, additional thunderstorms are expected to produce:
Locally heavy rainfall
Gusty winds
Isolated flash flooding concerns
Heavy rain will also become a major issue Sunday night across Texas, where repeated thunderstorms may lead to:
Flash flooding
Rapid runoff
Water-covered roads and low-lying flooding problems
Bottom Line
Severe weather outbreak possible Sunday (Mother’s Day)
Highest risk: central TX → southern AR → northern LA
Threats include tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds
Heavy rain and flash flooding also possible
Gulf Coast storms today may produce localized flooding
Overall, this remains a high-impact severe weather and flooding setup, with both storm intensity and rainfall concerns increasing into Sunday night.
