Severe Weather Discussion

Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across the northern High Plains today, extending from North Dakota into Minnesota and Wisconsin. The strongest storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and isolated tornadoes as they intensify during the afternoon and evening.

The greatest tornado threat appears to be across portions of North Dakota into southern Manitoba, where atmospheric conditions may support the development of discrete supercell thunderstorms. Any supercells that form could produce large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes before storms gradually organize into larger clusters.

The severe weather threat is expected to continue into tomorrow as the storm system shifts eastward. Damaging winds and heavy rainfall may become more widespread as thunderstorms move across the Upper Midwest, while isolated severe storms remain possible along the advancing cold front.

Residents across the northern Plains and Upper Midwest should monitor forecasts closely and be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions through the next 24 to 36 hours.
